Located directly at one of Germany’s most famous and popular shopping streets – the Königsallee – the location of the InterContinental Dusseldorf is truly unbeatable.

Even though the hotel is situated only two metro stops from the central station, I decided to take a taxi- well,due to the lovely German winter weather there was more or less no alternative. After a quick ride I was greeted by the bellman who also took care of my luggage. Check-In was smooth and I was quickly sent to my Executive Suite on the 8th floor.

At first glance the suite looked gorgeous and had everything you would possibly expect from a hotel of this caliber. I immediately fell in love with the bathroom. It features an incredibly good rainforest shower as well as a big bathtub. While InterContinental hotels usually provide Agraria bath amenities, I was happy to see that they offered L’Occitane amenities, which I quite liked.

The bedroom had the typical, super comfy InterContinental bed, a flat screen TV as well as a small walk-in wardrobe, which is a great plus if you have a lot of luggage and don’t like living out of the suitcase. However, the living room offered a small sofa, a decent sized working desk and another flat screen TV. When I started studying the floor plan, I had to recognize that there are Executive Suites which also feature a small balcony. Unfortunately I did not receive such a suite. (I guess there are bigger issues than not having a balcony for a rainy weekend, however it would be a lovely add-on on summer nights ;-) )

While the basic Internet is free for all IHG Rewards member, premium Internet can be purchased for a small surcharge (around 20 Euro a day) or comes complimentary if you book a Club Room/an Executive Suite. Guests who booked a suite, enjoy complimentaryClub Lounge access, which is located on the second floor overlooking the beautiful lobby. They offer breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and a light dinner as well as drinks throughout the day. While I appreciated the quiet atmosphere to work, the food selection was rather disappointing for a Club InterContinental. Nevertheless it adds quite some value and is also great if you are too tired to leave the hotel for lunch or even dinner. In case you did not book an Executive Suite or Club room, access is available for a supplement fee. (80 Euro per night and room, 60 Euro for Ambassadors).

As the hotel does not have an own gym, free access to the Holmes Place next door is given. To be honest, there is nothing better than Holmes Place attached to a hotel. Their gyms are usual well equipped and one of the best in town. The one in Dusseldorf is no exception and has also a decent pool.

Although I liked the hotel, it is quite challenging to summarize it. The hotel market is extremely strong in Dusseldorf and the competitors definitely not too bad. If your looking for a good value (around 170 Euro for Standard room, 380 Euro for a Suite) you cannot go wrong with the InterContinental, however it is still worth checking out the famous Breidenbacher Hof and the elegant Steigenberger.
