Restaurant-Check: Il Vino d’Enrico Bernardo, Paris
Il Vino is a quite new restaurant in the heart of Paris and is owned by Enrico Bernardo an Italian Sommelier which was awarded to be “le Meilleur Sommelier du Monde” in the year of 2004. Now he started a wonderful property close to the river Seine with a wonderful concept. The wine list is the most important denominator in the restaurants and the food and menus are made around the different wines. What we really liked about the concept was that they always served the wine without telling you what it is and you had the chance to do like a “blind tasting” and train your tasting skills.
The whole menu started with a glass of Bollinger Rosé and a culatello and homemade grissini. Culatello is kind of an Italian ham from Zibello which is close to Parma. And it’s mad of mini black Pigs, which are only fed with corn, acorns, and chestnuts. The first course was a sea bass carpaccio with tarragon espuma and Italian caviar. This dish was accompanied by an Italian Sauvignon of Sandro de Bruno, Veneto. A wine with a soft taste of lemon.
Seabass again made the first main course served with cauliflower and peas. This time again a Sauvignon was the wine pairing but this time from Serbia – we were completely surprised with this wine because we thought about and renowned old French wine and not an upcoming Serbian wine yard. A full body wine with a smoky note.
A wonderfully grilled Black Angus filet was the second main course served with green asparagus and morels. A wine from South Australia a Tournon Mathilda Shiraz. After the main dishes, we had the chance to try their homemade grapefruit and lychee sorbet which was lovely served on the table and was really refreshing.
The desert was a basil sorbet in a meringue cloud served with fresh strawberries. The dessert was accompanied by a delicious Moscato d’Asti. As a digestif, we had a wonderful Sarpa Di Poli Grappa in the Big Mama bottle, which didn't scratch at all and had a great soft texture. It’s a grappa of Merlot and Cabernet.
