48 Hours at the Hotel Santa Caterina, Amalfi

Come on it's summer and it's the Amalfi Coast, so what hotel is not spectacular?

No, seriously, who has never heard of the Santa Caterina linked with the immagination of the Amalfi Coast, the home of the world's best citrons and "La Dolce Vita"?

For me there was no doubt where my family and I would be staying - it must have been one of Amalfi's 3 Best Hotels: the Le Sirenuse, the Hotel Caruso in Ravello or the Santa Caterina. Finally we came to the conclusion to choose the Santa Caterina as it had a private beach club and we did not have to take the shuttle to get to a beach.

Now, after our stay, I do not regret the choice anyhow! It was magnificent, stunning and breath-taking.

The rooms represent the typical style of the old Costiera Amalfitana, paired with modern amenities such as Bulgari toiletries, Flat Screen TVs, Wi-Fi access throughout the property - even on the Beach Club (!), as well as the most personal service we discoverd during our trip.

For me the Santa Caterina is a hotel which impress even the most discerning traveller. The hotel itself is very old and the interior typical old Italian furniture, but well preserved and although I do not really like old hotels (eg the San Domenico Palace Taormina) the Santa Caterina was an impressive exception. The style completely represents the Coast and the Service, you feel like travelling back to the 18th or 19th century.

This picture perfect property is located on a hill, 5 minutes from the town Amalfi (reachable with a complimentary shuttle), and has always been one of the first addresses on the Amalfi Coast. So it was no accident that once Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton or Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt stayed here.
