Mystery-Check: Barcelo Emperatriz, Madrid

To be honest, this was my very first time in Madrid and my expectations weren’t that high, due to the fact that everyone is recommending Barcelona for the true “Spanish City Feeling”. However, as a travel blogger you have to widen you horizon every day and with every possibility. So we decided to explore the Spanish capital and it turned out not to be a mistake!

After a really comfortable pick up service from the airport with a Mercedes Benz S- class (thank you MyDriver for the upgrade), our driver took us to our place to stay: the Barceló Emperatriz. The hotel itself has been completely renovated and reopened in January, in the mid of Madrid’s upscale “Salamanca” quarter, right in opposite of the InterContinental Madrid. We found the neighbourhood quite charming. The connection to the public transport is very good, having bus stops and metro stations just arund the corner. Due to the central location of our lovely five-star hotel, all places to see were just a few minutes away.

After a warm welcome at the reception with a glass of champagne, the receptionist explained us the most significant things about the hotel and of course the city, Madrid. The very best thing about such new hotels is, that they can surprise you every time! Completely unexpected, he handed us over the most important gadget for a travel blogger: a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot which was free of charge during the entire stay, so we were connected to the internet all the time! I really never had this before and was impressed of this hotel.

Being arrived in the afternoon, our rooms were already available and ready to be inspected. The bellman escorted us directly to our rooms on the 6th floor. We entered the doors, and completely new and modern designed rooms were waiting for us. Amazingly clean and super spacious by Madrid standards. I instantly fell in love with the bath, which offered a separated toilet as well as a separate rain forest shower and a big bathtub. While my colleague Daniel would have immediately unpacked his “emergency kit”, I gave the beauty products by Pure Herbs a try - indeed nothing special but went quite well if you forgot your Aqua di Parma toiletries at home ;).

The bedroom offers a quite nice and comfortable bed, which you can upgrade with an amazing pillow menu offered by the hotel as well as an iMedia device where you can play your music directly from your smartphone. Of course the room was equipped with a Smart TV, which offers a wide range of international TV programmes, as well as complimentary Wi-Fi. Unfortunately the view of my room wasn’t as amazing as I expected so I don’t even took a picture : (. Anyway I really appreciated my room and can warmly recommend the Barcelo Emperatriz.

Felix, aka Mr Food Executive, stayed at this hotel as a mystery guest, so the hotel was not aware of our presence. Due to a special Mobile Offer via Barcelo.com he got a real bargain. This review expresses the personal opinion of Mr Food Executive and has not been influenced.
