48 Hours at the D-Resort Šibenik

Fully without any expectations I arrived to the town of Šibenik (via Zadar by a road along the sea). Never would I have expected to find such a romantic and hidden town. Upon driving through the center, there was a right turn and I soon after was crossing a very windy railway road. Another turn to the right and I was driving along a perfectly situated Peninsula until I reached a modern gate: "D-Marin Mandalin". I could not resist stopping the car and enjoying the amazing view of Šibenik. After a while there was the hotel emerging out of the ground, formed like a big futuristic ship. I stopped in front of the main entrance and was still flashed by the views.

I was offered a welcome drink and a seat in the Lobby Lounge. A young and super friendly lady arrived and did all the paperwork with me while I was enjoying the Istrian sparkling wine. She accompanied me to my room and again it was better than expected. Overlooking the yachts of the D-Marina, the bay and the peninsula, I was happy with my upgraded room - a Deluxe Room. The bathroom was very spacious and had all amenities to make me the happiest guest: walk-in shower, bright lights, semi-seperated toilet, bath tub and Etro toiletries. Well, a good sign to look for hotels are always their attention to details, eg toiletries. If you see a hotel with branded toiletries, it is likely that this hotel is not going to disappoint. The beds were very new and therefore perfectly heavenly - a good night's sleep was the result. Some problems still occured, like a small flooding after taking a shower (sealing needed) and the Air-Conditioning was too loud (although it was on the Low-level) - the hotel opened a month ago, so hey it's amazing that there were no other complaints! My terrace was also wonderful with no noise and two chairs as well as a lounge chair.

I don't know why but however I decided to take the half board as well, and it is fair to say it was a wonderful decision! Their restaurant is situated on the third and top floor and you have got the best views of Šibenik (probably also one of te best in Croatia beside Dubrovnik). The only comparable view is when you are staying at the Peninsula on the Kowloon side and you are overlooking Hong Kong Island. So I was enjoying a seafood platter and fresh scampi on the first evening and Dalmatian seafood risotto and Mignon steak with Langustines on the second night. What a delight! The service is perfect and all staff members are willing to help you and offer you an unforgettable experience. Breakfast is also served in the restaurant and it is definitely one of the best breakfasts I could enjoy in Croatia. Quality was very good, service perfect (always offering still water) and the views again so relaxing.

Situated on a secluded peninsula, the D-Resort is like a luxury seaside resort offering a spa, conference center, boutiques, 3 villas, another restaurant and bar as well as an exclusive marina for big yachts. Going to the center of Šibenik is possible by normal taxi (5 euros) or - the most amazing option - by water taxi. They pick you up behind the hotel (where you will be brought by the hotel golf carts) and then you will be brought to the old town within 10 minutes (cost 8 euros per person). After a day of sightseeing or on the beach (best place is to go to Primošten, about 30 minutes by car), head to the Spa or dive into the wonderful outdoor pool. Make sure to have a sunset cocktail while enjoying one of the most beautiful sunset views you can gather in Croatia. If the weather is not that good there is also an indoor jacuzzi, two saunas and some wonderful treatment rooms.

All in all I truly enjoyed my stay at this brand new resort. Once they will open their private beach club with sea access and another pool, it might get even more interesting. However D-Resort Šibenik is situated in a strategically perfect location between Zadar, Trogir and Split - all wonderful cities. If you stay there you will have excellent value for money and absolutely unique service in this area! I will put it on my list to come again. See you soon in Šibenik, the heart of  Northern Dalmatia and definitely a hidden treasure!

I was guest of the D-Resort Sibenik and Stromberger PR. However all above expresses my own opinion and has not been influenced.
