Autumn Getaway: Piedmont & Lombardy, Italy

When the rain and fog are hiding the blue skies of the Mediterranean Sea and the cities are getting more grey every day, then it is time to get away from your everyday life and find yourself in one of the following places:

1.) Four Seasons Milano - Milan, Italy
Before you start with your Gourmet trip to the Piedmont fly in to Milano. You have still got time until 31 October to attend the Expo 2015, anyhow everyone else might be happy enough with a shopping day in Via Montenapoleone. After a hard day for the credit cards, grab your bathrobe and head to the Spa at the Four Seasons Milano. With a brand new design and one of the coolest hotel pools in Italy, this spa is famous for it's extraordinary design by Patricia Urquiola. Rooms start from 700.00 euros per room and night.

2.) Villa Pattono - Asti, Italy
Tuscany has got lots of luxurious hotels and resorts, Piedmont not. So finding a place to stay is difficult. of course you need to book a lot in advance should you plan to come for the White Truffle Fair in Alba (10 Oct - 15 Nov 2015). Luckily I got the last room and will be reporting from this hidden hideaway next week. The Villa has been completely renovated with heavenly beds, huge and modern bathrooms as well as an outdoor and indoor pool. Prices are affordable, starting from 150.00 euros (per room and night including breakfast) during high season.

3.) Palazzo Righini - Fossano, Italy
Delicious food, elegant and luxurious rooms, and a member of Small Luxury Hotels. My personal favorite in the area of Langhe/Alba. After a day of tasting fresh truffle and best barolo it is time to indulge in a bath by Laura Tonatto and followed by a degustation menu at Antiche Volte - the hotel's own gourmet restaurant. Affordable rates from 140.00 per room and night are making Palazzo Righini the place to stay in Piedmont.

4.) CastaDiva Resort & Spa - Blevio, Lake Como, Italy
Need a break before flying back to work? CastaDiva is a deluxe five star resort on the shores of Lake Como and a fresh alternative to the old school grand hotels like the Villa d'Este, Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni or Grand Hotel Tremezzo. They offer a gourmet restaurant, luxurious rooms, upscale spa and plenty of history and lake views. Not the cheapest place to stay in Italy, while rates start at 740.00 euros per room and night.
