A Family getaway to Falisia Resort, Portopiccolo

There is this one week of the year that has always been reserved. Reserved for the complete family, the trip of all the trips when it comes to traveling in a group. Everybody knows, nothing gets me on a group travel nor a package holiday with 50 other travelers, everybody seeking to be the number one beloved one by the tour guide. I never did this and I will never do this! So when my family came up to the idea to do a travel together, it was clear: I needed a hotel that in fact could not exist.

It had to be stylish and truly luxurious (elsewhere I would not feel comfortable), then it has to have a possibility to shop (thanks to our female family members), excellent restaurants (preferably seafood when it comes to my father), a coffee machine in the room, AND then we are at the beginning of the amenities our youngest family member wishes: A beach to collect shells, a pool to dip in the afternoon, no traffic throughout the resort, casual feeling in the restaurants and hotel as well as lots of other kids to play with.

To my complete surprise it didn’t take long until I thought about this brand new resort anywhere between Venice and Slovenia. Exactly the one You Have Been Upgraded was unsatisfied about. So why exactly did the Falisia resort pop up in my mind? In the end it seemed to be the right place and none of us did miss a thing. I checked the prices and there it was: A double room including breakfast during absolute high season for nothing more than 119.00 Euros per night! Without looking further, we booked three rooms and all of them got upgraded to an Executive Sea View Suite (due to the Starwood Platinum Guest status of my father and a lot of goodwill from the hotel as they knew that last year’s experience wasn’t the best) a few days prior to check-in.

I love hotels where they take care of everything from the first moment. In fact, I have nothing against bringing my luggage back to the car at check-out but at check-in this is simply a must do in any five-star luxury hotels. Check-in was efficient and due to the high occupancy, none of our suites was ready yet So we had a sit at the bar opposite the hotel and were waiting for everyone else to arrive. As soon as we were all together, more and more suites were ready until we all had our places to sleep at 3pm. Well, to be honest Falisia must have information they are not allowed to have ;-), everyone of us got the suite that fitted best to his preferences. My brother and his family had a huge living room so they had enough privacy from the smallest family member, while my parents had an adorable suite on top of the building, with me having the largest terrace, a walk-in wardrobe and a bathroom with sea-view. I couldn’t have allocated the suites in any better way!

After we have refreshed ourselves it was time to discover the resort and it did not take long until the rest of the family was lying next to me on the beach club of the hotel. A dip into the refreshing infinity pool before continuing your sleep in the sun and this repeated at each hour – I can imagine worse moments in my life. Well, if I am honest, there were no worse moments ;-)) Service at the beach was always great as long as Salvatore was here, otherwise nobody did take care of the towels and umbrellas. The bar list is nothing to write home about, though Sistiana Garden and Bora were my favourites (and the only ones that I liked) – at a price of 8 to 10 Euros for a full glass really not overpriced and absolutely fair!

Of course the main highlight of our stay was, beside the beach club, the cool restaurant Maxi’s. Indeed, this place has also been the highlight of our last year’s stay in Portopiccolo. They simply have the best fish in town, most perfect service and the most amazing view over the castle and the sunset of the Mediterranean sea. It’s a place to sit and enjoy for hours. I do not even know if the food is really that good, the atmosphere is simply outstanding so that they could serve everything. Back to business, the seafood risotto was perfect, the Branzino in sea crust more than excellent and the Spaghetti Vongole one of the best I ever tried.

I paid for my stay at the Falisia Resort as it was a private holiday. Therefore the hotel was not aware of my presence and the review has not been influenced.
