Day-Trip to Agra with Indian Excursions Co

Day-Trip to Agra with Indian Excursion Co Well it was more less fortune that I found this high-end local tour operator which fits more than perfect to Travel Executive. I wrote them an online-message and within minutes I got a full reply and information by Madeleine, the owner of Indian Excursions. She stated that she would suggest to call so that she can evaluate our interests, get to know us and plan a one-of-a-kind experience. So did I and I was surprised to find an Expat from the UK on the line with which I could talk easily and ask her all questions I still had on India (since it was our first time, we were extremely unsecure and excited at once). I would say it’s been one of the best pre-arrival arrangements and she was really amazing and could answer all my questions and requests!

Being impressed of all arrangements I made with Madeleine, my colleague Lukas and me couldn’t wait to actually explore Agra and the world-famous Taj Mahal. Although pick-up time was 7 am (really early for South European standards ;-) ), we were surprisingly fit and ready to explore one of the most famous sights in the world. Our driver was waiting for us as was the husband of Madeleine (the founder of Indian Excursions) who introduced himself and welcomed us to the tour, before he left the car near Delhi centre. During our four-hours drive with the kind driver we enjoyed the breakfast to go by the Dusit Devarana and a two-hours sleep!

When we arrived in Agra, a city completely different than the international Delhi, we picked up our tour guide – which turned out to be one of the best informed we have ever had! After another 10 minutes and an introduction to Agra, we arrived the ticket office of the Taj. From there we were chauffeured by a golf cart to the main entrance. As soon as we went through the security control, the tour started and we got the first information about the building and its history. Due to the terrible heat, we moved on slowly and this gave us the opportunity to take as much pictures as possible and also to enjoy the beauty of the gardens and the main structure. Being one of the most exclusive buildings in the world, the Taj Mahal is only made out of finest marble. We were walking through the area and he informed us about each detail we posted to.

After the Taj it was time for lunch, so our guide called the exclusive Oberoi Amarvilas to pick us up at the monument and bring us to one of the country’s most exclusive hotels by golf cart. When we arrived at the hotel, we were both impressed by the beauty of the Indian styled Palace. Once we settled in the hotel restaurant, two kind and (probably too) attentive staff members served lunch and we could refresh ourselves in the air conditioned restaurant while overlooking the wonderful gardens and pool area of the Oberoi hotel.

As soon as we finished lunch, our tour guide picked us up together with our driver and then we moved towards Agra Fort – one of the most important and biggest buildings in Northern India. Perfectly timed (as soon as we started feeling tired), we ended the sightseeing tour for the day and stopped by a local marble producer who introduced us to the special production and finishing of the same marble used for the Taj Mahal.

All in all it was one of the most exciting and interesting sightseeing trips we have ever done and can highly recommend to go to Agra for a day when in Delhi. If consider doing such a trip, definitely book the tour with Indian Excursions as they have an excellent knowledge, flawless cars and superb pre-arrival service by Madeleine or one of her staff members. Prices are definitely worth the services and they offer an excellent value for money.
