72 Hours at the Grand Hyatt Berlin
When you think of luxury accommodation in Berlin, there is only one property that comes to your mind: The Adlon. Having tested this landmark, we wanted to make us a different view of the luxury hospitality in Berlin and were checking in at the modern and stylish Grand Hyatt Berlin in the designed Potsdamer Square quater on Marlene-Dietrich Square. Picked-up by the luxurious Benita Limousine Service, our arrival at the Grand Hyatt was amazing and within minutes we were standing in our View Twin Room - on the fifth floor and therefore overlooking the Marlene-Dietrich Square. I would not describe our room to be spacious but I loved the layout with the open bathroom and the megahuge shower.
Now to the best part of our stay: the Room itself!
Being it a Hyatt property I expected to find great beds but in fact they were amazingly heavely! Like many many blankets put together. AMAZING! Also the bathroom had a cool layout and was truly generous with seperated toilet, wardrobe, single vanity with lots of storage place as well as a shower room with bathtub. We could watch TV from everywhere in the bathroom thanks to a rotable TV next to the mirror - what a nice touch. The toiletries smelled pretty good and were by Pharmacistica, a brand we have never seen before. Beside two oversized single beds there was a Bang Olufsen TV, spacious writing desk with chair and a comfortable arm chair with ottoman. The design of the room was very attracting and definitely my style - being refurbished the last two years.
Unfortunately we had to experience a usual Club Lounge. The club rooms are located on the 7th floor, which is also the highest room floor at the hotel. We did not experience an attentive and personal service on the first two days, being it only one server for 12 tables and 45 people. At the third and fourth day, there were tow ladies who were always there and attentive. During peak hours the Club Lounge was crowded and one time we didn't even got a table and a chair. The food was very various on our four days: the first day we just ate the fish with risotto (everything is cold at the buffet) and on the second day I had the Vitello Tonnato which was much better then the products of the first day. As the hotel states on the website, the Lounge offers Alcoholic beverages. This is only done from 6 pm until 8 pm and only consists of white, red and sparkling wine. Also there is only a food selection three times a day (breakfast, cakes in the afternoon and light appetizers for two hours in the evening). We stayed at many Ritz Carlton properties where there is a much better Club Lounge. Of course Grand Hyatt is not the same level but we expected the Lounge to be way better. We haven't stayed at another Grand Hyatt so we cannot compare the Lounge within the group.
On the top floor, the Grand Hyatt Berlin houses one of the city's most spectacular pools with panoramic views over the whole city. We loved to escape a bit from the hustle and bustle below. While the generous indoor pool is kind of refreshing (perfect for summer days like we had), the Jazuzzi is on the warm side! Beside the pools there are a roof garden, fitness center, treatment rooms as well as a coffee lounge with free water and coffee! What a nice touch. On the last day we were allowed to use the Health Club until our Limousine arrived, although we already checked out at 10am. This was very generous and the male staff member was well informed and already waiting with two bathrobes for us when we arrived - perfect! For this reason there is a very spacious changing area with a wonderful mixed sauna and steam room as well as a panoramic relaxation room.
I would say the best plus of the hotel are the modern rooms with its spacious bathrooms (heaven for all hotel bathroom lovers like me), the location next to Potsdamer Square (between Mitte and Kurfürstendamm - just 3 minutes to the metro station), and the enormous spa on the rooftop with Berlin's most wonderful hotel indoor pool.
Furthermore the staff members of the Grand Hyatt Berlin are all well trained and willing to help you with all questions and concerns, the design is very nice and attracting lots of fashionistas, the hotel has an elegant and sophisticated Restaurant called VOX and the more casual but terrible cool Mesa serving german food in a wondefully styled room. Last but not least, did I mention that the beds are heavenly? Yes? Well, they were so good that I would just come back for them but the rest was also amazing.
Was there something we did not like? Well the only thing would be the loud air condition in the room, but there is always the possibility to open a window at night as the climate is oceanic and nit cools down. As you might think the name Hyatt brings a lot of business men - as at every other Berlin hotel, but it is just for information and clear for most of the travellers. However I saw some families as the pool is a big plus for children - Hey we loved it too :)!
We were invited by the Grand Hyatt Berlin Hotel for the whole three-night stay and would like to take the opportunity to thank the team of Grand Hyatt Berlin. All above written expresses our own opinion and has not been influenced.
